Promoter’s Ordinance Opinion Survey
May 21, 2008
The Chicago Music Commission has posted a survey form on their site and will be presenting all comments received by 5pm on Friday, May 23, to Mayor Daley and the City Council.
In the survey, you can tell them who your Alderman is, and whether you’re a fan, venue, promoter, or performer. The questions address many of the concerns that have been voiced over the last week and a half. Performers are even given the opportunity to explain how they promote their shows.
Be sure to spread the word. Let’s make sure they at least have the opportunity to learn about Chicago’s cultural environment from the people that create, promote, and enjoy it.

I just completed this survey. Remember, this is the CMC’s survey, the results of which will be provided to decision makers in the City. PLEASE be well-spoken and civil when answering the questions. It’s one thing to be direct and to-the-point.. It’s quite another to hurl insults and call names. Regardless of your opinion of the personalities involved, more will be resolved on our favor if we don’t alienate the people we are trying to persuade. Thanks.

I second Jeff Churchwell’s comment. I tried to be as civil as I can. Not sure, though. Just being honest here. Had to answer with my heart and with as much tact as I could.
As Mr. Churchwell already stated, I implore you to do the same. Use tact…and the rest WILL fall into place.
Let’s keep marching! The future of Chicago’s music and live arts scene depend upon it!
Peace, love and LIVE MUSIC AND ART in Chicago,
David Kav

It is heartening that all the protests registered a couple of weeks ago resulted in the Promoters’ Ordinance being temporarily tabled. Now that the members of the City Council know that people in the arts here have a spine, we have a great opportunity to continue to speak out loudly and clearly against this measure. It is wrong, it is unfair and it has the potential to stifle one of the forces that adds so much to the quality of life in our city.
